Punishing the prisoner's family

When someone goes to prison, his family suffers somewhat, because probably his wife and kids have to move home to live with her parents, or she has to find some new guy who won't be as good-looking or whatever as her badboy. Since she'll be a single mom, it'll put her at a disadvantage in the mate market (unless this guy swallows the myth that he should step up and give this kid a step-daddy because what's most important is to do what's best for the child who didn't choose to put himself in that situation).

Also, she has to come visit him in prison and write to him, instead of getting to spend time with him every day in their home, sleep with him, etc. He doesn't make a lot of money in prison and if anything she'll be the one sending him money.

Anyway, people used to say how unfair it was that the family would be punished for their dad's crime. But in reality, the mom chose to have sex with that guy and bear his kids, when she probably knew he had criminal proclivities. Maybe those were what attracted her to him to begin with.

Does it do any good to punish the family? Is it going to make young women choose non-criminals over criminals, or is it going to make men avoid a life of crime to begin with, or go straight?

I dunno. My guess is, young women will continue to make retarded decisions for the foreseeable future, because either they're being raised by a single mom and have all the problems that come with that (e.g. a poor role model of what kind of woman one should be, and a lack of an example of what kind of man she should get with), or they have a dad who's pretty much a cuck in that he either willingly or unwillingly lets his daughter become a slut.

Something else that happens, that we don't hear about much, is beta widowhood. A young girl can get with a nice guy, and stay with him for a few years, and then he can dump her for whatever reason, resulting in her going on the rebound to a bunch of criminals and other trash. This is one of the perils of girls taking a long time to get married; the dude may simply decide after awhile that he'd like to try to find some other chick or whatever.
