Nail salons, massage parlors, and hairdressers closed. And in cities across the country, far fewer women were on the streets than on an ordinary day.

Countless thousands of women and girls across Mexico have joined a historic strike to protest against the country’s startling rates of gender-based violence – and the government’s failure to respond to the crisis in which more than ten women are murdered every day.

Of the 35,558 homicides recorded in Mexico last year, 3,825 of the victims were female.

The problem with males being killed is almost all bad if you value one female the same as ten males. Some of the males killed may be important for society and thus females will end up suffering too as a consequence, males being killed reducing the mating options females can choose from.
