This is my favorite book of Mormon Scripture, because it shows how their doctrine evolved over time, e.g. as people fell out of favor or got reinstated or whatever. They were able to stay dynamic as times changed, yet still claim to be basing important decisions on authoritative revelations from God.
Catholics do the same thing, I guess, but D&C is more accessible to the average Mormon because it's actually considered part of their Scripture (not just a canon, as maybe it would be with the Catholics; canon law tends to be more obscure). They speak sometimes of buying a Triple, which means the Book of Mormon, the D&C, and Pearl of Great Price all in one volume. There's also the Quad, which contains the King James Version of the Bible as well, in one volume. Actually, it used to be that the Mormon church would send you all that stuff for free if you asked.
